A setting of my own abridged translation of a profoundly disturbing passage in the Fioretti di San Francesco, in which Saint Francis opines that true happiness is being beaten mercilessly with a heavy knotted stick while contemplating Christ’s suffering.

This lively fanfare was written for two of my favorite instruments. They don’t get to play together that often. Here’s the opening salvo.

In the ’90s, John Keel reprinted some of his articles as booklets, under the rubric of the New York Fortean Society. This one was taken from a piece he wrote for the Journal of Popular Culture; I provided the cover illustration. John was particularly insistent that there be someone in a straitjacket.

This card was one of a set of “Crackpots and Visionaries,” published in 1994 by radio station WFMU as a fundraising premium.

The movie based on John A. Keel’s book The Mothman Prophecies was released in 2002; the Fortean Times marked the occasion with a special issue. I contributed a biography and bibliography of Keel, and an interview conducted with the assistance of George Kuchar and Dr. Mamie Caton.
